School’s out for summer and not all of us have time to take a long vacation. For those of us that have only a day or two for a getaway, we’ve got twelve ideas for a day (or two) trip the whole family can enjoy.

For those who enjoy the animals and outdoors, there are lots of options in the State of Arkansas to enjoy. But, Arkansas also has a few hidden gems. The Audubon Nature Center in Little Rock offers the opportunity to learn about the birds of the Natural State andfamily outdoors conservation efforts. They offer lots of programs and learning opportunities at their center. Another opportunity to see animals can be provided by visiting the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Eureka Springs. Turpentine Park is a refuge for big cats and bears that offers tours through the habitat. The kids will definitely want to check this out!

For those who are interested in the outdoors, Wye Mountain is the place to be! The family can have a full day of fun while picking blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. For an urban outdoor experience, try out the political history tour in Little Rock. The whole family can discover the people and places that helped shape the political history in the State of Arkansas. The best part? This tour is a do it at your own pace experience!

If you prefer to enjoy learning about history indoors, then there are lots of great options for family with heads in circleyou! The Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum in Little Rock is a great opportunity to take the kids to learn about war and naval history.  Another day-trip location to learn about war and history is the Delta Cultural Center in Helena. Here is where the family can spend the day learning about the historic Delta region of the U.S. and everything that has made it into what it is today, from the Civil War to Blues music.

If music history is what you seek, then a trip to the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View is in order. Music occupies a special place at this center and you are guaranteed to hear and see some awesome performances. There are also plenty of arts and crafts to do while you are there.

Speaking of the arts, Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville is the premiere location to visit for American art.  Another great artistic experience to have is at The Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs. There you can see a live performance of biblical stories.family holding hands

Would you rather attend classes and events? Try visiting the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain. Or, if you want to be more kid focused, run down to the Mid America Science Museum in Hot Springs. Both institutions have lots of great classes the whole family can get in on. Another event the whole family can attend is Mystery Mansion Escape in Little Rock. You’ll definitely get some close-knit bonding time!
