When it comes to driving, nothing is more refreshing than getting behind the wheel and looking at the road through a beautiful, streak-free windshield. It’s not easy to get that streak-free shine to stick around for more than a couple of hours. While crystal clear windows may seem elusive, it’s more attainable than you may think. Here at Discount Auto Glass, we’ve got the recipe for shiny-windshield-success!
What you’ll need:
Spray ammonia-free window cleaner on your windows – key word here is ammonia-free. Ammonia is often added to many window cleaners because of its ability to achieve that streak-free shine. The problem with using a harsh chemical such as ammonia is that it’s tough on the surface of your car and can damage any tint on your windows.
After spraying your window cleaner, wipe your windows with newspaper. Yes, you heard us right, newspaper. Wipe back and forth horizontally, then up and down vertically to ensure coverage over the entire surface of your windows. For your windshields, spray and wipe one half at a time to adequately tackle this larger surface.
Once you’ve wiped down all the windows with newspaper, follow it up by wiping the windows with a microfiber towel.
Last, but not least, complete the cleaning process by cleaning your wiper blades. This step is often overlooked, but it’s necessary to ensure those wiper blades don’t have any dirt and residue that will smudge those freshly-cleaned windows. Mix a solution of warm water and white vinegar, dip a cloth in the solution, and lift up each blade to wipe it down. This will increase the effectiveness of your wiper blades and keep them from depositing dirt and debris on your windows.
It’s also important to clean out your wiper cowl, the area at the base of your windshield. The less unwanted dirt and grime you have near your windshield, the easier it is to keep those windows shiny and streak-free for a longer period of time!
