Mastering the Defrost in Summer

Aug 15, 2016, 08:30 AM by Lisa Burnett

If you haven’t noticed, it’s hot outside. It’s true; fall, football and cooler air are quickly approaching. Unfortunately, the heat and humidity will hang around for a few more months. The defrost is a tool we use a lot during those chilly winter months, but the humidity during the summer makes our windows in both our homes and our cars fog up. If your car or home is cooler than the temperature outside, this causes fog to form. Not only is this a major annoyance, but it can also cause a hazard to you and your fellow drivers.

So, what should we do to remedy this? The Discount Auto Glass team has a few pointers for you to get rid of that pesky fog that seems to constantly creep into your car during the summer months.

shoesLet outside air in to balance out your car’s temperature. We know it’s hot outside, but letting the warm air outside come into your car to remedy this problem can be a quick fix. This quick blast of warm air is a lot better than turning your car’s heat on during those 90-degree nights.

Use your windshield wipers. If the condensation is on the outside of your car, windshield wipers should do the trick to get rid of the fog, for the time being.

Use your defrost. If you can stand the blast of heat, use your heated defrost to balance out the temperature of your glass in your car.

Turn your air conditioning down. If your car has cooled off, turning the fan on your air conditioning down can also help you avoid foggy spots on your windows. If your vents are turned toward a window in your car, a lot of times, it’ll create a patch of fog just in that one spot. Turning these vents toward you or another passenger can also alleviate this problem.
