We’re well into the Fall season. And, while you either love or hate the shorter days and cooler breezes, there’s one aspect of fall that we can all agree on: the beautiful colors! With the amount of nature surrounding us in Arkansas, Southern Missouri, and Memphis, we’re lucky to be able to experience this beauty at every turn. Next time you’re free, take some time to explore some of what your state has to offer. Take a look at our list of five scenic drives around Arkansas, Southern Missouri, and Memphis that will make for a beautiful fall road trip.
1. Scenic 7 Byway
One of Arkansas’s most beautiful drives is Scenic Byway 7, which ultimately leads to the breathtaking Arkansas Grand Canyon. Along the way, the highway offers beautiful mountainous views and a number of overlooks where you can look out at the expansive scenery. Eventually you’ll reach the canyon, which offers a stunning panorama of the deep valleys and rolling hills of the Ozarks. We advise giving yourself some time to take it all in -- there’s a lot to see!
2. Crowley’s Ridge Parkway
Down in the Arkansas Delta sits a rare geological formation: Crowley’s Ridge. Formed from the accumulation of windblown silt, this landmark stretches for 150 miles and is 250-500 feet above the swamps. On the parkway, you’ll run alongside it, in the middle of it, or across it, making for a beautifully scenic and winding drive.
3. Push Mountain Road
This winding road follows AR 14 out of Mountain View to AR 341 along Push Mountain. With “mountain” in its name, this highway is just what you would expect -- tight curves and scenic overlooks galore. Motorcyclists from all across the country come to Arkansas for a taste of AR 341, so it is definitely not one to miss!
1. Southwest Missouri Corner Run
This 47-mile scenic route moves east from the southwest corner of Missouri along Highways 90 and 43. The highway takes you through dense forest, making for a beautiful sight once the trees begin to change colors. Be wary of the road’s sharp turns -- this route is not one to rush through! Eventually, you can make a pit stop at the quaint town of Pineville, which is full of friendly inhabitants and family-owned stores.
2. Highway 125
Not only is this mountainous trip beautiful, it has an added bonus: it travels through Missouri and Arkansas! Starting in Sparta, MO, you’ll travel 60 miles along Highway 125 through the Ozarks until you reach Yellville, AR. Be prepared for some twists and turns at the beginning of the trip as the highway takes you through the beautiful Mark Twain National Forest. Once you reach Yellville, you have the option to continue your journey on a ferry across Bull Shoals Lake.
1. Great River Road - Mississippi
This is often referred to as "Blues Alley," taking you from Memphis into the Mississippi Delta. You'll see some of the world's richest farmland along this trek. Be sure to make a stop at the Delta Blues Museum on this route.
