How to Prevent Heat Damage to Your Vehicle

Jun 4, 2019, 15:13 PM by Discount Auto Glass

It’s officially summertime, and the heat is on! Hot summer days are perfect for pool parties, cookouts and family road trips — but people often forget that excessive heat can damage their vehicles, including auto glass. We have a few quick tips that will help you protect your car all season long!

If your windshield is already chipped or cracked, heat can cause the cracks to spread. No matter how minor the fracture is, constant exposure to extreme heat can quickly turn a small problem into a large one. That’s why it’s important to repair your auto glass as soon as possible, before things get worse. Always park in shaded areas or parking garages when possible, and use a windshield sun protector on sunny days. Keeping your vehicle out of direct sunlight will keep the temperature in your car cooler, and it’ll also prevent your dash from cracking.

Seat covers protect the material on your seats while also keeping them cool and comfortable. When it comes to leather seats in particular, it’s best to regularly use a leather conditioner to prevent fading and cracks. It’s also important to wash, dry and wax your car often to prevent small scratches, fading and cracked paint.

Tire pressure is another thing you should pay attention to year-round, but especially in the summer months. Low tire pressure and burning hot pavement do not mix well, and can lead to a blowout if you aren’t careful. Keep an eye on your tread and check your tire pressure at least once a month. Take the time to prioritize your safety.
