Smoldering summer heat is becoming a thing of the past, and we’re certainly excited about cooling off for a while! As the temperatures continue to drop and holiday season approaches, it’s time to start preparing your vehicle for colder weather. There are a variety of things you can check up on to ensure that your vehicle is in tip-top condition for fall and winter. Check out our tips below:
Fall is the perfect time to make sure your tires are performing well, and will last you through the winter months. If the tread on your tires is worn down, there’s uneven wearing or you’re in need of a tire rotation, now is the best time to handle it. When temperatures drop and roads become icy, worn tires become even more dangerous. It’s also a good idea to check your tire pressure, especially if a tire pressure warning light shows up on your dashboard, as over-or-under inflated tires increase your risk for a blowout.
Check to make sure you aren’t in need of an oil change, especially if you plan on taking a long road trip for the holiday season. Your manual will have clear information on how often you should get an oil change, but as a rule of thumb, most vehicles need one every 3,000-5,000 miles. If you skip out on an oil change for too long, it could lead to a variety of problems and costly repairs for your car.
Inspect and clean your headlights if grime is built up on them, as dirty headlights can dramatically reduce visibility at night. There are a variety of headlight restoration kits on the market that you can use to easily wipe away build up. As always, replace any bulbs necessary as soon as possible.
Defroster & Heater
If you’ve been putting off a repair on your car’s heater or defroster, now is a great time to take care of it before icy glass becomes an issue. Your defroster helps melt ice away and clear up foggy windows so you can see to drive, so it’s important to prioritize a repair of this nature before your car begins to freeze over at night.
