Severe weather season is in full swing, and hail damage can cause a lot of trouble when it comes to your vehicle. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to protect your car and prevent costly damage when a storm hits. Take a look at our tips below!
When You’re Driving
Being caught on the road when a storm hits can be scary, especially if hail starts falling! The best thing you can do in this situation is find a covered area as soon as possible. Look for parking garages, gas stations, etc. where you can take cover. It’s a good idea to use GPS to find an area quickly, and if you know it’s going to storm before you get on the road, keep a list of places handy just in case.
When You’re Not Driving
There are several things you can do to protect your vehicle from hail damage at home, work or even while you’re out running errands. Try to check the weather daily so you can prepare for severe storms rather than being caught off guard. A few things you can do include:
This may seem obvious, but park in your garage or under your carport if you’re at home and you have one. This is by far the easiest way to prevent damage to your auto glass.
If you’re in town or at work and know storms are headed your way, try to park in a covered area. If a parking garage is nearby, we recommend spending the money to park instead of risking costly damage.
Get a car cover for hail protection. Simply place it over your vehicle before a storm to protect your glass and paint job. While they aren’t 100% effective, they’ll reduce the amount of damage at the very least. These are a great option whether you’re home or not.
If none of the above are options for you, get creative. Cover your auto glass with floor mats, blankets, pillows, cardboard or whatever else you can find. It’s better than nothing!
