Things You Should NOT Do To Your Vehicle in the Winter

Winter is here, and there’s a lot to love about the season! There are also a lot of things you should avoid as temperatures continue to drop. Make your vehicle a priority in 2021, and steer clear of things that could harm it! Take a look at our tips below.

  1. Don’t Pour Hot Water on Your Windshield - You’ve likely heard that doing so will easily melt the ice off of your auto glass, but this should be avoided at all costs! We understand that waiting around is no fun, but when hot water splashes over ice cold glass, you run the risk of cracking it. That’s an expense that could easily be avoided.

  2. Don’t Leave Your Car on Empty - An empty tank can allow condensation to build and freeze.  It’s best to keep your tank at least half full, if possible, just to be on the safe side. While unlikely, again, this is an expense that can simply be avoided.

  3. Don’t Ignore Your Tires - Be sure to check your tread depth. If any of your tires need to be replaced, don’t put it off. Doing so could lead to an avoidable accident. You should also keep a close eye on your tire pressure throughout the winter.

  4. Don’t Let Your Car Warm Up for Too Long - Start your car, take a few minutes to use an ice scraper to get rid of the ice on your windows, and go ahead and start driving. Just take it easy for the first few minutes of your drive.
