Protecting Your Vehicle from Severe Weather Damage

Severe weather season is in full swing, and while protecting yourself is most important, you should also have a plan in place to protect your vehicle when storms arrive. Heavy rain, high winds and hail can all contribute to damage, and that damage adds up! Take a look at our tips so you can be prepared to protect your car when rough weather rolls in.

Heavy Rain

Driving on flooded roads isn’t only extremely dangerous, but it can damage your engine, interior, rotors and brakes. If you come across a flooded road, put the safety of yourself and your car first and turn around. Also, if heavy rain is in the forecast, be sure not to park under trees to avoid damage from falling branches.

Wind

Flying debris can no doubt cause damage to your vehicle, so it’s important to park it somewhere safe if you’re expecting windy conditions in the area. Park in your garage if you have one at home, or in a parking garage or tree-free parking lot if you’re out and about. You should also be careful when opening your car door, as wind can cause it to fly open quickly and crash into something nearby, leaving a dent.

Hail

Hail damage is every vehicle owner’s nightmare, but there are ways to avoid it even if you don’t have a garage. You can buy a car cover to toss over your vehicle before a storm for an extra layer of protection, or even cover your auto glass with blankets, pillows or cardboard if you’re pressed for time. Get creative!
