Brrrr. It’s the time of year when you might have to plan before you leave! That is, plan on defrosting your windshield in these frigid temperatures. When you’re late and rushing out the door, the last thing you want to do is wait on your windshield! And it’s no easy task, but one that is necessary for safe driving.
Here are a few solutions beyond the basic ice scraper to get you going on your way:
Lukewarm water - The simplest solution, right? Just pour some over the ice on the windshield and you should be able to wipe it away as it softens. Of course, this doesn’t work so well if the ice is thick.
Water and white vinegar - Instead of just water, add a little vinegar. This takes a little prep the night before as you’ll want to spray it on your windshield overnight to prevent ice from forming. Mix a third of white vinegar with one part water - and frost be gone!
Water and rubbing alcohol - This trick works like magic! According to TipHero, mix 1/3 water and 2/3 of rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on your car’s windshield and watch the ice vanish.
Tarp - When in doubt, keep it covered! Just use a simple tarp, or a folded bed sheet or beach towel the night before you hit the road.
Sock with kitty litter - Strange? No doubt. But, did you know that the kitty litter filled inside an old sock will help remove excess moisture? Just put it by your windshield overnight, and wake up to a frost-free shield.
